MRS Financial Services Conference: Stuck in the 70s! Why our understanding of the SME sector needs a reboot!

At the Market Research Society’s Financial Services Conference on 15th November David Smith, Adam Riley of Decision Architects and Stuart Baker of MetLife presented ‘Stuck in the 70s! Why our understanding of the SME sector needs a reboot!‘.

Starting from the definition of SMEs set down in the early 1970s, this presentation explores new ways of thinking about the SME universe – beyond merely number of employees and turnover. They argue that understanding small businesses from the perspective of their business mindset, business outlook and level of business capability is the key to understanding what makes SMEs tick.
